Rector’s Update 19/05/2025
The last two weeks have provided opportunities for us to rejoice across the Benefice.
Last Sunday (11th), many of us gathered with our new Bishop to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the dedication of St Peter’s. It was a lovely time as we welcomed back past members and were joined by local friends. As it was such a beautiful afternoon, we were able to enjoy a wonderful afternoon tea outside – my grateful thanks to all involved and who made the occasion so special.
On Saturday (17th), St Denys’ held a plant swap and sale which attracted a good number of local residents as well as members of our churches.
On Sunday (18th) the Bucklebury Churches said farewell to David Sammon as he settles in a care home in Harrogate. We welcomed many members of the Benefice, David’s friends, former members and a couple of past Vicars as we celebrated at both services and had a shared lunch. It was good to see David looking so well. Thank you to those who work behind the scenes to set up and clear up after the lunch.
Being together and enjoying fellowship is such an important part of the Christian life and we look forward to future occasions when we can do so.
We have just advertised the Team Vicar (house for duty) for a third time. Please do pray that we manage to attract a strong applicant who can join us and help grow the work of the team.
This summer a group of us are going to the New Wine summer festival from 30th July to 4th August. There is still space for others to book and join us, details here https://www.new-wine.org/events/new-wine-festival-2025/
I am aware that some of us may not have been baptised (either as a child or an adult) or confirmed as an adult. If you might be interested in knowing more about either, please do speak to me.
Have a good week.
Steve
