Rector’s Update 02/06/2025
On Sunday (1st June) we enjoyed our usual morning services and it was particularly good to welcome to St Peter’s Sharon Wilcox, our Church Mission Society mission partner who works in Ecuador. Sharon told us of her work over the past few years and encouraged us with stories of how God has been moving in that country. In the afternoon, a number of us from across the churches took part in a Rogationtide prayer event at Rushall Manor and the surrounding farms in Stanford Dingley and Bradfield. It was a special afternoon and we enjoyed travelling on the tractor trailer, stopping to hear Bible readings and to pray at various locations, before enjoying tea and cake!
Next Sunday (8th) is Pentecost when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit. We have our usual services at St Mary’s and All Saints Bucklebury; St Peter’s will hold the monthly All Age Family Service and St Denys’ will have Evening Prayer at 6pm instead of a morning service.
If you would like to support our local C of E schools in prayer, there will be a prayer meeting on Zoom this Saturday(7th) morning at 10am. Contact Caroline Newbold for the joining details.
As you know we have again advertised the Team Vicar (house for duty) and are awaiting replies. Please do pray that we manage to attract a strong applicant who can join us and help grow the work of the team. As we wait, we also pray and our next Prayer time specifically for this will be on Saturday 5th July at 9am at St Peter’s.
In a couple of months a group of us are going to the New Wine summer festival (30th July to 4th August). There is still space for others to book and join us, details here https://www.new-wine.org/events/new-wine-festival-2025/ If you can’t come for the whole time maybe you would be interested in coming down for a day as a large group did last year?
I have previously mentioned that we are hoping to gather those who haven’t yet been baptised (either as a child or an adult) or confirmed as an adult and arrange a service. I have had some response but there may be others - if you might be interested in knowing more about either, please do speak to me.
